Faith
Trust that doesn’t need proof
Also covers Religion
What does faith mean as a core value?
Faith as a core value means a steady trust, in God, in people or in a purpose, that shapes how you live and holds when proof runs out.
For some, faith means religious belief and a life shaped by it. For others it’s trust in people, in a purpose, or in the sense that things will come right. What these share is a steady confidence that doesn’t wait for proof. When faith is a core value, it’s often what holds you when plans fall apart, and it gives shape to how you spend your time, treat people and make hard choices. For many people it feels like ground to stand on.
What does faith look like in practice?
- You make time for practices that keep your faith alive, such as prayer, worship, reflection or study.
- You keep going through a difficult period because you trust it has meaning, even when you can’t yet see it.
- You show up for the members of your faith community when they’re going through hard times.
- You let your beliefs shape decisions about work, money or relationships, even when that’s inconvenient.
- You give people the benefit of the doubt because you’ve chosen to believe in them.
When is faith overplayed?
Faith overplayed can shut down questions that deserve an answer. Doubts get pushed away unexplored, evidence that should change a decision gets ignored, and people who believe differently can feel judged or kept at a distance. At work, blind faith in a plan or a leader can let small challenges grow. Healthy faith is usually strong enough to live alongside doubt, and generous towards people whose convictions are different. You could try taking the question you’ve been avoiding to someone you trust who sees things differently.
