Kindness values
Warmth, gratitude and generosity towards others
The Kindness family brings together 6 core values: Kindness, Acceptance, Forgiveness, Gratitude, Open-mindedness and Respect. They share a theme, warmth, gratitude and generosity towards others, and each puts the weight somewhere slightly different. If two or three of them feel true of you, this theme probably matters a lot in how you choose your work and spend your time.
The values in Kindness
Kindness
Kindness as a core value means treating people with warmth and care in everyday moments, noticing what they need and doing small, thoughtful things without being asked.
Acceptance
Acceptance as a core value means taking people, including yourself, as they are, without needing them to change before you can respect them, work with them or enjoy their company.
Forgiveness
Forgiveness as a core value means choosing to let go of resentment after someone has hurt you, so an old grievance stops shaping how you see them or yourself.
Gratitude
Gratitude as a core value means making a habit of noticing and appreciating what’s good, and thanking the people and circumstances that helped you get where you are.
Open-mindedness
Open-mindedness as a core value means being willing to change your mind: listening properly to views that differ from yours and updating your beliefs when the evidence or argument is better.
Respect
Respect as a core value means treating everyone with basic regard and courtesy, whatever their role, and honouring their boundaries, time and choices in everyday interactions.
