Intuition

Trusting what you know without knowing why

What does intuition mean as a core value?

Intuition as a core value means trusting your gut: treating the quick, felt sense you have about people and situations as real information, even before you can explain it.

Sometimes you just know. You meet a candidate who ticks every box and something feels off, or you sense a friend needs a call before they’ve said a word. When intuition is a core value, you treat that inner signal as real information, worth hearing out before you reach for the spreadsheet. You’ve probably learned, sometimes the hard way, that ignoring your gut costs more than listening to it, even when you can’t explain it to anyone else.

What does intuition look like in practice?

  • You pause a deal that looks fine on paper because something about it doesn’t sit right.
  • You follow a hunch about which question to ask next in an interview.
  • You notice your body’s reaction to a person or a place and pay attention to it.
  • You make room for quiet before a big decision so you can hear what you really think.
  • You check your gut feelings against what happened afterwards, to learn when they can be trusted.

When is intuition overplayed?

Intuition is a very convincing disguise for bias. A gut feeling about a person may be familiarity or prejudice dressed up as wisdom, and “I just know” is hard for anyone to challenge. Leaning on it too heavily can shut out evidence, frustrate colleagues who need reasons, and leave decisions impossible to explain. Healthy intuition is treated as a strong first signal, then tested. One way to sharpen it is to say your hunch out loud and ask what evidence would change your mind.

Often confused with

Intuition vs Insight

Insight is understanding you can explain. Intuition arrives before the explanation, and sometimes the explanation never comes.

Intuition vs Wisdom

Wisdom is good judgement drawn from experience and weighed consciously. Intuition is fast and felt, though it’s often built on the same experience underneath.

Intuition vs Spirituality

Spirituality is a sense of connection to something beyond yourself. Intuition can feel similar, and it’s often your own mind processing more than you’re aware of.

Questions to sit with

  1. When did you last override your gut, and what happened?
  2. Which of your hunches about people turned out to be wrong, and what did they have in common?
  3. How would you explain a gut decision to someone who had to live with its consequences?
