Accountability values

Keeping your word and owning the outcome

The Accountability family brings together 8 core values: Accountability, Commitment, Conviction, Dedication, Discipline, Duty, Reliability and Responsibility. They share a theme, keeping your word and owning the outcome, and each puts the weight somewhere slightly different. If two or three of them feel true of you, this theme probably matters a lot in how you choose your work and spend your time.

The values in Accountability

Accountability

Accountability as a core value means owning the results of your choices, good or bad, answering for them openly and putting things right without waiting to be asked.

Commitment

Commitment as a core value means keeping faith with the people, promises and projects you’ve signed up to, and staying with them through the difficult stretches as well as the easy ones.

Conviction

Conviction as a core value means holding beliefs firmly enough to act on them, even when it costs you something or puts you at odds with the room.

Dedication

Dedication as a core value means giving sustained, wholehearted effort to something you care about, and keeping it up for years after the early excitement has faded.

Discipline

Discipline as a core value means doing what matters regularly, whether or not you feel like it, because you decided in advance and trust that decision.

Duty

Duty as a core value means meeting the obligations that come with your roles and relationships, reliably and without fuss, because someone is counting on you.

Reliability

Reliability as a core value means doing what you said you would, when you said you would, so people can build their plans around you without checking.

Responsibility

Responsibility as a core value means looking after whatever is in your care, from people to budgets, and dealing with what might go wrong before anyone has to ask.
