Abundance

Having more than enough

The heart of abundance is margin. Not necessarily riches, but a full cupboard, savings that cover the unexpected, and enough time and money that one bad month doesn’t become a crisis. If abundance is one of your core values, scarcity probably feels unusually uncomfortable, and you notice the relief when there’s more than you need. It often comes with an open hand too: when there’s plenty, you can share without doing the maths first.

What it looks like in practice

  • You keep a healthy buffer in the bank and feel uneasy when it dips.
  • You cook for eight when six are coming.
  • You’d rather give a project generous time and budget than run it on fumes.
  • You say yes to a friend’s request quickly because you know you can spare it.
  • You notice what’s plentiful in your life before you notice what’s missing.

When it’s overplayed

Pushed too far, abundance becomes accumulation: more stock, more subscriptions, more of everything just in case, until the surplus itself is a burden. It can also tip into waste, or into a quiet fear that there will never be quite enough, however much there is. The healthy version is about sufficiency with room to spare, not an endless top-up. A good test is whether your extra gives you ease and freedom, or simply more to manage and worry about.

Often confused with

Prosperity

Prosperity is about thriving and growing materially over time. Abundance is about having more than enough right now, whether or not anything is growing.

Wealth

Wealth is significant money and assets. Abundance can be felt on an ordinary income, as long as needs are well covered with some to spare.

Contentment

Contentment is being at peace with what you have, even if it’s only just enough. Abundance wants a margin beyond enough.

Generosity

Generosity is giving freely. Abundance is having plenty, which often makes generosity easier but doesn’t guarantee it.

Questions to sit with

  1. How much margin do you actually need to feel at ease, and how did you arrive at that figure?
  2. Where are you holding more than you need, and what is it costing you to keep it?
  3. When did you last feel genuinely well supplied, and what made it feel that way?

From Matt

Often when I coach people they come from a place of scarcity. Time, money, relationships are all in short supply. When people value more abundance, there are choices and techniques that will build a foundation of ‘enough’.
