Leadership values
Standing, influence and setting direction
The Leadership family brings together 6 core values: Leadership, Authority, Influence, Reputation, Significance and Confidence. They share a theme, standing, influence and setting direction, and each puts the weight somewhere slightly different. If two or three of them feel true of you, this theme probably matters a lot in how you choose your work and spend your time.
The values in Leadership
Leadership
Leadership as a core value means setting a direction and helping people move towards it willingly, leaving them more capable and less dependent on you than when you started.
Authority
Authority as a core value means having clear, legitimate standing to make decisions, using it openly and well, and wanting that standing to be earned and respected.
Influence
Influence as a core value means wanting your view to shape what happens, through persuasion, good relationships and well-timed conversations, whatever your job title.
Reputation
Reputation as a core value means caring what your name stands for in other people’s minds, and protecting it through trustworthy work and fair dealing over many years.
Significance
Significance as a core value means wanting your life and work to make a real difference, so that the people and places around you would be noticeably poorer without you.
Confidence
Confidence as a core value means trusting your own ability and judgement enough to act, speak up and ask for what you need, even before you feel completely certain.
