The Ethics family brings together 7 core values: Ethics, Equality, Fairness, Honour, Justice, Inclusiveness and Diversity. They share a theme, doing right and treating people fairly, and each puts the weight somewhere slightly different. If two or three of them feel true of you, this theme probably matters a lot in how you choose your work and spend your time.
The values in Ethics
Ethics
Ethics as a core value means having a clear, considered moral code and using it to weigh the right and wrong in everyday decisions, including the small, ordinary ones.
Equality
Equality as a core value means believing every person has equal worth and should get the same rights, opportunities and rules, whatever their background or position.
Fairness
Fairness as a core value means treating people even-handedly: judging them on the merits, hearing them out before deciding, and reaching outcomes through a process they can see is fair.
Honour
Honour as a core value means holding yourself to a personal code of conduct: keeping your word, behaving decently in victory and defeat, and doing right when it costs you.
Justice
Justice as a core value means wanting wrongs named and put right, and standing up for people who bear the cost of others’ choices, even when that makes you unpopular.
Inclusiveness
Inclusiveness as a core value means making sure people are welcomed and able to take part fully, especially those on the edges, without having to change who they are.
Diversity
Diversity as a core value means actively seeking out people, ideas and experiences unlike your own, because a wider range of views usually leads to better thinking and fuller lives.
