Community values

Being part of something bigger than yourself

The Community family brings together 8 core values: Community, Belonging, Collaboration, Communication, Connection, Contribution, Friendship and Service. They share a theme, being part of something bigger than yourself, and each puts the weight somewhere slightly different. If two or three of them feel true of you, this theme probably matters a lot in how you choose your work and spend your time.

The values in Community

Community

Community as a core value means investing in a group of people you’re part of, such as a street, club or team, and helping it thrive over time.

Belonging

Belonging as a core value means feeling genuinely accepted as part of a group, like a family, team or circle of friends, and being able to be fully yourself there.

Collaboration

Collaboration as a core value means working with others towards a shared goal, building on each other’s ideas so the result is better than anyone could reach alone.

Communication

Communication as a core value means exchanging ideas clearly and listening properly, making sure what you say lands as intended and what others say is genuinely understood.

Connection

Connection as a core value means seeking real, two-way contact with other people, the kind of conversation where both of you say what you actually think and feel heard.

Contribution

Contribution as a core value means wanting your effort to make a real difference, so that the people, work or community around you are better off because you were involved.

Friendship

Friendship as a core value means investing in the close bonds you’ve chosen, keeping them going over years and treating them as seriously as family or work.

Service

Service as a core value means organising your time and effort around being useful to others, meeting real needs and making things easier for people, whether or not anyone notices.
